Meeting the Needs of Children & Families in Cafubá ...
INTELLECTUAL
The children that attend the project are enrolled in public school. However, the quality of education they receive is extremely inadequate. In response, the project provides after school tutoring to help further develop their reading, writing, math, and language skills. We also seek to expand their cognitive abilities through Art, Reading, and English classes. In addition, a computer course and cooking class will soon be offered for adolescents.
SPIRITUAL
Projeto Crescer is a Christ-centered organization and, as such, we believe that every human being is created by God for His purposes and glory. We make every effort to express the love of Jesus to the children and to teach them of His love through bible stories and times of prayer and worship.
PHYSICAL
A healthy breakfast and lunch are prepared under the direction of a nutritionist who also evaluates each child for signs of malnutrition. Organized recreational activities such as soccer and volleyball are made available at a local sports club. Additionally, lessons about personal hygiene are taught and, whenever possible, visits from local medical professionals are scheduled.

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL
Most of the children face precarious living conditions and many of them contend with physical abuse, alcoholic parents, divorce, drug abuse and even child prostitution. As a result, they have difficulty expressing their thoughts and emotions in an appropriate manner often responding in violent ways. We provide various programs that address issues related to abuse and self-esteem and are blessed to work with a psychologist who comes weekly to assist the children and their families.
